2018 Year-End Recap

2018 Year-End Recap

2018 was a busy year for Pickering Energy Solutions.

This year in the US we installed solar systems at the Marietta Municipal Court Building, Williamstown High School, Hall Financial and the Washington County Public Library at Lafayette Center in Marietta. We also installed solar power at a residential home in Orlando, installed a demonstration solar system for Edison Junior High School and Washington State Community College, and donated a solar system for the Boy Scout Camp Kootaga which will provide most of the power for their pool facility. We appreciate and thank our domestic partners and those that hosted our systems.

In Africa we traveled in February to Liberia, provided several installations while we were there and planned for our next year. In 2018 we sent 13 solar systems for clinics and 2 solar systems for hospitals (emergency and surgery units) as well as several smaller residential systems. We currently have 43 solar systems installed at clinics and 11 systems installed at schools, orphanages and missionary residences. We conservatively estimate that 12,000 people live in these communities that are improved by our solar systems, with a much larger community sharing in the benefits of these systems. We gratefully acknowledge support from the Brother’s Brother, Partner Liberia, Global Health Ministries and the Pickering Energy Solutions team in Liberia!

This year our solar systems produced 826 MWH (megawatt hours, or 826,000 kWH). This is the equivalent of powering 75 homes for a year. In 2018 we have saved the production of 859 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, which is the equivalent to taking 170 automobiles off the road.

In 2019 we have planned to install solar systems at the City of Belpre’s Fire Station, West Virginia Wesleyan College will get a carport structure with EV Charging Stations, we are working with the IBEW #972 to install a solar system on their Apprenticeship Building and the City of Marietta is considering a second solar system for their truck garage. We are currently planning our next trip to Liberia on February 23rd, and hope to send between 12 and 15 solar systems to Liberia in 2019.

Thanks for all that follow and support Pickering Energy Solutions. If you are so inclined, we have installed our first solar system at a Leprosy Colony (yes, they still have those) in 2018. This colony has about 250 persons either as patients or support persons, and they are working toward being self-sustaining. Their current system (which we installed last year) allows for students to meet and read at night. We will be looking to expand this system in the future to allow for enhanced services to the community and are accepting donations toward this project.

Thanks to everyone that follows and supports our programs.

Chip Pickering, Keri Dunn and the team at Pickering Energy Solutions!

Leprosy Community in Bong County; this was a 2018 installation which we plan to expand in 2019.

As we push out from Bong County my team advocated for a more robust vehicle, so we purchased a used Toyota Land Cruiser in 2018. They are putting it to good use, here in Sinoe County.
